The injury was sustained during the Qualifying race on Saturday afternoon at Teutschenthal as the twenty-year-old from Florida was pushing forward into the top-ten. He cross-rutted approaching a jump and was thrown off-track; the rear wheel tangled in the support-strap holding an advertising banner and he ejected from the bike, landing heavily on his feet. Medical examination at a local hospital has revealed a fracture to the talus bone which links the foot to the lower leg. He will now fly back to the United States for surgery.
Jack Chambers: "It's not great news. I cross-rutted going up the big hill yesterday in Qualifying; I had to go off-track to save it and when I went off the side of the track there was a strap holding the tower and it caught my rear tyre. I had to bail off the bike and landed on my feet; I've broke my left ankle - the talus bone. I'll go back as soon as possible to the States for surgery; I don't know how long it will take but I'll be back as soon as possible. I'm obviously very disappointed as I have been making progress each weekend, but that's how it is."
Charlie Cole, the English youngster who was making his GP debut for the Big Van World MTX Kawasaki line-up this weekend, showed great promise as he battled for seventeenth with the series red-plate-holder through the early laps of race one and was running a solid twenty-fourth until he suffered a hand injury in a heavy landing two-thirds of the way through the moto. Defying the pain he persevered to finish twenty-sixth but inevitably sat out race two.
F&H Kawasaki Racing Team did not race today; Kevin Horgmo withdrew after a heavy crash at the first corner of Qualifying and was retained for twenty-four hours in hospital for observation despite suffering no broken bones; the team confirmed on Sunday evening that they are confident the Norwegian will return to racing at round ten of the series in Indonesia on Juner 24/25. It was decided before the weekend it was preferential for David Braceras to sit out the GP as he recovers from a recent training crash.
Kevin Horgmo: "I had a really big crash so they wanted to keep me in the hospital overnight to check my internal organs but everything is OK. X-rays confirmed I have no broken bones; My body is just really sore, particularly my shoulder and ankle, but that's racing. I will have more check-ups this week when I get back home to be 100% sure."
BUD Racing Kawasaki's Quentin Marc Prugnières claimed seventh overall in the German round of the FIM European EMX250 Championship after adding an eighth place in race two to the fifth place he had earn in the first moto on Saturday afternoon. The French youngster is now ninth in the series standings.
Quentin Marc Prugnières: “The second moto was more difficult than the first one. It took me too long to find the best lines in the first few laps; I had good lap times mid-race, but I struggled a little during the last five minutes. The results are not that great, but for me there’s a lot of positive things to retain compared to the previous races. I can’t say that I’m satisfied but it gives me more motivation for the coming weeks and we’ll continue to work hard, as I want to be back on the podium.”
