This race was a first in many ways for Kawasaki’s WorldSSP Team in 2025, as this was the first competitive outing for the Ninja ZX-6R (now running a 636cc engine) and a first ever WorldSSP race for former GP rider Jeremy Alcoba.
Despite still feeling the effects of a long-tern left hand injury, Alcoba had qualified 15th in Superpole qualifying on Friday, leaving him a Race One start from the fifth row of the grid.
The 18-lap race was split into two parts to allow for a mandatory tyre change pitstop, which was negotiated without incident.
Saturday provided hotter conditions than any previous test or practice day in Australia, which added to the pre-race list of variables for the Kawasaki WorldSSP Team to take into consideration.
Having made up five places in Race One compared to his Superpole qualifying position, both Jeremy and his team intend to kick on in Race Two on Sunday 23 February, when they will be out to make even more progress.
Jeremy Alcoba, stated: “First race, top ten from 15th on the grid. I tried to do my best and follow the guys in front. From the beginning I was struggling with grip and I couldn’t turn like them. I was losing some tenths each lap and at the end I was riding on my own so I tried to set my own pace and take some points, bring the bike back to the box, and gather some info for Race Two and the future. We are not fully ready so we need to make more laps. I think we are not so far away. We will work more and we need to understand the bike a bit better. The bike has good potential but until now it is not there, so we need to find a way.”
