This new class of racing takes over from the WorldSSP300 Championship that Kawasaki has enjoyed so much success in from the first season to the last, in 2025.
Although the Ninja ZX-6R 636 is a well-known quantity in WorldSSP racing, it will race in WorldSPB in very different trim, according to the limits contained in the technical regulations. This recent Guadix test was also a rider training and familiarisation session, as well as a team-bonding exercise for those Kawasaki entrants able to attend. Even though it is early days, all three teams at the test proved to be highly satisfied with the work done, and the potential of the machine, complete with its new electronic system.
The Prodina Kawasaki squad was not at this particular Guadix test, but there were competitors from the Pons Motorsport Italika Racing Kawasaki, MTM Kawasaki, and Deza-Box 77 Racing Kawasaki out on track, and working together to try and make the best possible start to the new season - and a whole new category.
Guadix was chosen for its location and the fact that its recent resurfacing provided a grippy track surface, even in wet conditions.
With this initial test completed, there will be further test sessions and also a competitive outing inside the Spanish SBK championship before the first round of the whole new WorldSPB era, which will start at Portimao, between March 27-29.
Fabien Raulo, Kawasaki Racing Technical Coordinator, stated: “After the late release of the rules, everybody had to work very hard to be ready for Guadix, but the tests went exceptionally well when we consider this situation. We were the first on track with this new WorldSPB specification machine, and we could do some solid laps and identify our next major milestones to be fully ready and competitive for the first race of 2026. The next step will be to compare ourselves with the other brands inside the championship and see how the balance of performance is. But our riders seemed quite happy, and I’m glad to say that we are off to a good start.”
Steve Guttridge, KME Race Planning Manager, stated: “Having enjoyed many seasons of continuous success inside the FIM Supersport300 World Championship, Kawasaki has made a strong commitment to keep pushing and supporting this new ‘entry class’ into WorldSBK - WorldSPB. We have done this because we believe that we must help and encourage our young teams and riders every step of the way toward fulfilling their true potential. It meant a lot of changes for our teams to make over this winter, to adapt the Ninja ZX-6R to the new WorldSPB rules. We wanted to be 100% behind them in facilitating this test to assist the transition. By our teams working closely together at the test - with our excellent technicians and importantly all together in the spirit of Team Green - the test proved to be a fundamental pre-season shakedown success for all who attended.”
