Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R rider Öncü had his best single result of the season so far at the previous round in France, taking fifth place in the opening race of the French weekend. It was also his best points scoring weekend in total.
Can is now 11th in the championship points standings after his positive Magny-Cours experiences.
The Cremona Circuit is a known quantity for some teams and riders, including Öncü, who has tested there in the recent past. The layout is slightly shorter than the average WorldSSP venue, at 3.768km.
Cremona contains 13 corners or curves and a vast back straight that leads into a final complex of three corners before the start/finish straight. The track is located relatively close to the Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team’s HQ in Reggio Emilia.
Can Öncü, stated: “I’ve tested at Cremona since the track’s been modified and I must say I really like it. After what we did in France, I’m focused and confident that we can do well in Italy too, not least because this is our team’s home round, and I’d really like to give the guys a great result.”
Spanish rider Borja Gomez Rus (Viamo Racing by MTM Kawasaki) will compete this coming weekend on a Ninja ZX-6R.
A very quick turnaround for the WorldSSP teams will be required after the forthcoming Cremona weekend, as round ten takes place at Motorland Aragon in Spain between 27-29 September.
