The first attempted running of a scheduled 18-lap WorldSSP Race One at Assen was halted when a fast crash between two riders brought out the red flags to halt the action for safety reasons.
A 12-lap restart, for full championship points, was finally completed in warm and dry weather conditions. Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636 rider Alcoba launched from the third row of the grid.
A less-than-ideal start saw Jeremy 13th on lap one but he was soon in 11th place. A personal battle with one other rider prevented Jeremy from closing in on the second group of leading riders in the early part of the race.
Alcoba had too much ground to make up to get into contention with that second main group in only 12 laps, but he used all his skill and determination to make sure he was at the head of a three rider battle for the final spot inside the top ten. In taking a top ten finish he maintained his record of having scored points in every race so far in his rookie WorldSSP year.
One more WorldSSP race remains to be run at Assen, on Sunday 13 April, which is scheduled for a full 18 lap duration. Due to changes in the way the Race Two grid is determined, Jeremy will be starting from 12th grid spot this time.
Jeremy Alcoba, stated: “The start of the race was not so good and I lost many positions. I worked so hard to recover them. I was in a fight with another rider and we missed the second group. I finished at the top of the third group but in 12 laps, being 15 seconds away is too much. Each Saturday is like this, but we have improved from each Saturday to Sunday, so I hope we can make a good step for Race Two. I hope to be able to fight for the top five. I am not happy about today but I will try to do my best for tomorrow.”
